Old Fourth Ward
Old Fourth Ward is a historically diverse community located east of downtown Atlanta, west of Poncey-Highland and Inman Park neighborhoods, and south of the Midtown neighborhood. The neighborhood was the original location of Morris Brown College and Clark College, later Clark Atlanta University, but this area is most notably the home of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church where the great Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once lead his services.
Recent projects such as the Glen Iris Lofts, Tribute, and the transformation of the old City Hall East into Ponce City Market are evidence of increased interest in the neighborhood. Planned projects such as the; redevelopments of the Boisfeuillet Jones Atlanta Civic Center and the Atlanta BeltLine; and, the proposed Fourth Ward Park are evidence of the increased interest and revitalization occurring in this area of Atlanta.
Old Fourth Ward offers a multitude of family friendly activities with just as many options if you’re looking for a good night-life scene. During the day, families can enjoy one of the best brunches in Atlanta at The Highland Bakery, a little history and education at the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum or on a tour of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and in a short ride on the recently introduced streetcars running up and down Edgewood Ave, spend some time walking through the Sweet Auburn Market for some fresh produce. After dark, the nightlife in this area is focused around Edgewood Ave and Krog St at establishments such as Rathbun’s/Krog Bar, The Krog St Market, Mother, Sister Louisa’s Church of the Living Room and Ping Pong Emporium, or Joystick if you’re looking to mix craft beers and nostalgia of childhood arcade games. Last, but not least, The Masquerade is a long standing music venue loved by many Atlantans multi-floor layout, allowing for a multitude of diverse line ups.
